Nateleng Poultry group bags Sh5 million from the World Bank


Nateleng Poultry Farmers Cooperative Society in Nawoitorong society have received a Toyota Probox from the World Bank to facilitate their operations.


Nateleng, formerly known as Napucho, got a major boost as part of Kshs. 5,499,580 grant by World Bank through the National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Project(NARIGP).


They also received two incubators which can incubate 2112 eggs each,1000 improved kienyeji chicks, 30 bags of chick mash, 80 bags of growers mash and 100 bags of kienyeji mash.


NARIGP is a National Government project funded by World Bank and it is implemented in 21 counties including Turkana. The project development objective is to increase agricultural productivity and profitability of the selected value chains by the smallholder’s farmers.




The County Chief Officer for Livestock and Veterinary Services Abdulahi Yusuf handed over the equipment to the society. He said this will address issues of food security and nutrition in the county.

"Keeping chicken is more profitable compared to rearing," said the Chief Officer.


Some of the long term objectives of the grant are; Increased chicken productivity and profitability leading to improved income at the household level and nutrition through the availability of eggs and chicken meat.


Abdulahi called for proper utilization of the donated equipment. He warned that wrangles over the running of the cooperative risks collapsing it, despite the heavy investment by the Government to the cooperative that has 194 registered members.




NARIGP County coordinator Joseph Ekalale asked members of the Nateleng to work as a team and ensure that the overall objectives of the hatchery and transport funds are achieved.
